Homeschooling is one alternative that is becoming really popular these days, growing at about seven to 15 percent every year since it has broken ground several years ago. To date, there are about two million children undergoing the program.

Although there have been arguments against it, children who have undergone the program actually do well on standardized tests and even do well in college and universities. They are even commended for their abilities to learn on their own through college and independence when they eventually join the work force. Of course, this also depends on the learner and the kind of training that they provide. Below are some of the advantages of homeschooling:

Flexible and dynamic programs

Freedom is perhaps at the heart of the homeschool program. Children are allowed to set their own pace in learning the lessons. There are no time pressures to learn a certain task or to keep up with other people. The lessons can also be tailorfitted to the needs of the children.

For instance, if they are already good in Math and may need some work in English, the program can incorporate more time with English lessons and less with Math. The secret to the success of the homeschooling program is the flexibility and dynamism that it offers to students. It takes into account the learning pace of the child, their abilities and even their learning style.

No fix schedule

Because the program is done at home with parents as teachers, there is no need for a fix time schedule. This does not however mean that they won’t learn the discipline of rising early in bed and adhering to a time-schedule. In homeschooling, lessons may start at a specific time but it may end whenever the child is through. For instance, if the child is able to breeze through the lessons fast, he or she can relax on the remaining time. There is no need to stay in the class and study.

No fix place.

Learning can be done and achieved anywhere. This is why most homeschooling parent do not just make their homes their children’s classrooms but also everywhere they feel their children can learn. For instance, in teaching a lesson on plants and animals, they can conduct the lessons inside a Science museum or a zoo. With a homeschooling program, there are actually more field trips and more practical lessons than traditional classroom lecture.

Most all universities have career days and brag about putting 85% of the graduates in top fortune 500 companies as a way to get parents to pony up the money and attract top students to their schools. Colleges and universities and their placement, well this is a very big part of what they do and why people go to college in the first place. Indeed these employers is where a lot of funding comes from, interns as well. But what if you are an entrepreneur and not on the career-employment track?

Let me explain my premise. You see, I attended some college and I have an AS, AA, but I do not count those, it seemed more like a continuation of advanced HS classes to me. I believe for me, it was a waste of time. I had a business to run and I knew enough to know that the brain washing was not for what I was looking for.

Additionally, these colleges were not teaching to my abilities only making me absorb through rote memorization. This was not answering my questions that came from real world experience prior to attendance. That is my experience. I am of the belief that a life time of learning is far more important.

Many people stop learning after college, now on-going education requirements in many fields is making people continue, but on their own many do not. That is a shame and a 10-year old degree in many fields is worthless for the most part as new technologies come into play. Worse off only about 25% of the people with degrees ever remain in that field over time.

Now, I am very careful when someone trumpets their degrees in my face, because in the real (business) world anyway, I only care about one thing. Winning and performance, not a piece of paper. Either they have what it takes or they are soaking up real money and not getting the job done; so see ya! They are outta here.

Lots of letters next to their name, sure thats nice, but results are much more exciting. I find it funny often that after all I have done some folks just think because I do not have some advanced degree that I do not know what I am talking about, because I do. Someone once accused me of going to a diploma mill, that is insane, I certainly would not do such a thing.

In fact, I have a McDonalds hat hanging in my office it says; “Here is my Degree” and it is a badge of honor to not have one and still have built my company. I suppose Gates and others feel the same, “in your face” but I have never heard them say it, I just suspect it. Entrepreneurs who know their stuff need not have a piece of paper proving it.

I certainly hope this article is of interest and that is has propelled thought. The goal is simple; to help you in your quest to be the best in 2007. I thank you for reading my many articles on diverse subjects, which interest you.

Like myself, many people have had negative experiences while going to school. Because the way of teaching wasn’t consistent with your individual way of learning, you may of had difficulties with different subjects. You may have experienced under-achievement and even failure. You may have experienced negative comparisons with others who were getting excellent grades while you were struggling just to get by in your classes. You may gone through the agony of poor report cards, failed tests and examinations, repetition of classes and courses. And a general feeling of inferiority when it came to learning new subjects. Well, your not alone.

This just happens to describe the school experiences of about 70% to 80% of the general population. Fortunately, we have learned more in the last 15 years about how the brain functions, and how to learn well then we have learned in all of human history. And what we know is that our current methods of teaching by no means fit in with what we know about how the brain really works. They work for a small number of students and leave the rest of students under-educated and under-motivated. No wonder that most people leave school determined never to submit them selfs to this sort of learning situation again.

With modern learning techniques its all different. When you learn and practice the scientific learning techniques and learn the the unique ways you were designed to learn you will be able to absorb and retain huge quantities of information and you will be able to amaze yourself and all those around.

Work done by Dr. Howard Gardner at Harvard University points to the fact that we have not just one intelligence - but seven.

Each intelligence is of similar importance in reaching our full human potential.

Lets look at those seven important intelligences. They are common sense. We can recognize them as natural talents, which each of us has to a greater of lesser extent.

1. Linguistic Intelligence - talent with language. Reading, writing, talking and public speaking.

2. Mathematical & Logical Intelligence - talent with numbers, logic, systems, and math.

3. Visual & Spatial Intelligence - the ability to imagine or picture in the minds eye.

4. Musical Intelligence - talent with creating and interpreting music and rhythm.

5. Bodily & Physical Intelligence - physical talent to run, dance, build and construct with the hands.

6. Inter-Personal Intelligence - social talent and communication skills.

7. Intra-Personal Intelligence - the ability of inner control, planning, goals, and self-analysis.

It is worth spending a few minutes looking at this list of seven intelligences or talents again.

Be aware that they are of equal Value

Previously, intelligence was defined much more narrowly. It was mostly related to academic performance. Yet academic subjects are largely taught through just two intelligences. The linguistic and mathematical/logical intelligences. Academic success is indeed one way of demonstrating intelligence. In the real world, however, it is far from the only way.

“A uniform way of teaching and testing is patently unsatisfactory when everyone is so different.”
Dr. Howard Gardner - Frames of Mind

In conclusion, you all have the capacity you need to be an excellent learner. The basic capacity of a human brain to learn is limitless. Most people, however, use only a fraction of their true potential.

We can only hope that the education systems of the future be designed to ensure that people learn in ways that suit their unique mix of capabilities.

More than 25 years have gone by since the U.S. Congress passed the Women in Science and Technology Equal Opportunity Act, which states that it is “the policy of the United States that men and women have equal opportunity in education, training, and employment in scientific and technical fields.” But today’s academic field illustrates a different reality than that the U.S. Congress wishes to exist. Even if major advances have occurred in relation to women’s role in education, academic institutions are still not fully utilizing the pool of women scientists they are producing each year. In fact, the difference between the proportions of women who earn Ph.D.’s and those who are in faculty positions at top universities appears to be most evident in the biological and physical sciences, as well as in engineering.

But these sciences, even if they have been mostly studied by men, have been also studied in great extend by women over the years. While some scholars support that considerable biological differences between men and women affect their representation in science, there is a substantive body of evidence indicating that overall intelligence does not differ between men and women. Still controversy persists as to whether specific aspects of cognitive ability differ. But there is no ideal constellation of cognitive abilities required to be a scientist. To become a successful scientist, one needs to have deductive reasoning abilities, adequate verbal skills, quantitative reasoning, intuition, and social skills. Even if we accept that men and women differ in some of these abilities, there is no basis on which one may assume that men will have greater success than women in science, because different academic backgrounds, personal skills and mental abilities create equally successful approaches and styles. Moreover, there is no convincing evidence that women’s representation in science is limited by innate ability. For example, between 1970 and 2003 a considerable 30 percent increase occurred in the proportion of Ph.D.’s granted to women in engineering. Since people support that this was the outcome of dramatic changes in attitudes and laws relevant to gender, the fact that more women were able to successfully graduate from their PhD’s programs provides strong evidence of the cultural and structural impediments to women.

Moral and legal imperatives to ensure equal opportunity provide sufficient reasons to examine the causes of the disparities and to attempt to rectify them. Equally compelling is the impact that equity will have on the quality of today’s universities and the competitiveness of any nation. Heterogeneity among students, faculty, and staff can strengthen universities’ role in fundamental ways. Specifically, the design of more innovative solutions to problems is the outcome of heteroclite groups, which can bring a higher level of critical analysis to decisions. Furthermore, institutions that welcome women foster more favorable working environments for all community members.

Concluding, institutional transformation necessitates collective examination of attitudes and the behaviors observed, which can be rather disquieting, since it requires engagement with issues of life-style, reproduction, hiring, and academic customs. But, the most uncomfortable of every possible discovery is the realization that all people have their own unconscious biases, which can shape behavior patterns and lead to such gaps.

The main objective of SAP Education Benefit was to achieve a successful technical upgrade. This SAP Education Benefit article was mainly focused on changes in the project level. The project management approach permitted the orange county public schools to achieve the successful upgrade from SAP 4.0 to 4.7.

Regarding the project management, some impressive numbers were also disclosed by the consultant. Mr. Jerry veal, the managing consultant of this project said that in a year 200,000 hours of manpower was saved. He also says that $ 750,000 runtime hours in an annual year were also saved.

If arithmetic is performed, it even adds up the saving of millions of dollars in a year. This is what we have heard from other school systems with successful enterprise resource planning (ERP) implementations. Another important factor is that OCPS has already worked out with change and project management strategy which is upcoming functionality expansion.

The destination is same for OCPS to take its own way. For instance, OCPS avoid the big bang approach to implement, placing a phased approach into play. This OCPS has some financial procurement, HR, payroll, plant maintenance, teacher certification, and some other modules.

Sap’s on Demand Version

SAP previews the on demand version in his back office some software product like enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM) at a recent analyst summit.

Mr. David Bradshaw says regarding this preview: he says “Each consumer will have their separate case of the software running on a separate server blade, with a separate database for storage of data. The SAP will maintain this software directly, fixing bugs and providing updates without taking the system down.”

In such a situation, the on demand versions of SAP software will be preconfigured for certain verticals. The SAP service-oriented architecture (SOA) approach will allow consumers to squeeze the functionality. Customization started increases for mid-market CRM and ERP, so that it will increase or improve the technology development.

In the case of urban warfare it is important to be able to get in close proximity of your enemy, yet in doing so you increase their chances of killing you. In war it is important to kill your enemy first before he kills you, obviously. In urban warfare there are snipers and enemy combatants, which know ever nook and cranny better than you do and thus they have the advantage.

Yet there are ways to over come this advantage and turn it around for instance use underground systems. If you will recall in the Vietnam War the enemy hid out in tunnels underground where we could not see them, thus giving them the advantage in the jungles and forestry areas.

There is a specific and known advantage to controlling the ground under the battlespace, yet so often we talk about air-superiority, Naval Power and ground strategy. Yet this is somewhat linear thinking in a way considering if we are going to think about using the entire region we should think of the battlespace as a spherical area, not merely a dome.

In the new age of net-centric warfare we continually see diagrams of a dome where all the components of the future fighting force and Air Force talk to each other along with ships and submarines in and under the water as well. Yet we do not discuss what is under the ground. Some say why bother there is nothing there?

Oh, but indeed there is for instance tunnels, infrastructure, sewers cables, subways, etc. and we should be using these spaces and incorporate them into the battlespace using sophisticated tunneling bots.

The Military therefore needs various renditions of Tunneling Robotic Weapon Delivery Systems and thus we should be spending R and D monies now to make this happen, so we have them in our future arsenal when we really need them. Think on this in 2006.

Before borrowing money, make sure you explore all of your options. There are millions of dollars worth of scholarships that go unawarded each year. In order to get this free money, you have to apply!

First, check for local scholarships that are not advertised nationally. Good places to start are with your employer and your parents’ employers, your bank, local rotary clubs and community organizations, your religious organization, your school, your local library, foundations, and organizations that represent your cultural heritage, career field, or that of your parents.

Second, check with the school you plan on attending, which often offer scholarships for specific career fields or scholarships for individuals only attending their school. Many schools will have these scholarships, along with other local scholarships, listed on their website or a printed scholarship list available from the financial aid office.

Beware of ‘paid scholarship services’ or companies that ‘guarantee money for school’. You can use free search engines to locate and apply for scholarships and will have the same opportunity to win the scholarship as everyone else.

Third, perform key word searches on the Internet for scholarships, specifically include key words, such as intended career and associated professional organizations. Many businesses and professional organizations offer scholarships for students pursuing a career in a specific field and many do not post their scholarships anywhere but on their website.

You should also check these free sites for scholarship postings. Many scholarship search engine sites allow you to browse thousands of scholarship opportunities and narrow your search by school, gpa, field of study, extracurricular activities, ethnicity, and religion.

Scholarship Tips for Success

Read the Fine Print - Be sure you meet all requirements and qualifications prior to spending time on a specific scholarship. Many scholarship review committees will accept your application without an initial review, but if you are not qualified you will never be selected as the winner.

Play the Odds - Apply for several scholarships and do not limit yourself to one or two applications. Also, smaller, local scholarships for your specific school are likely to have less applicants and competition, which will give you better odds.

Know your Odds - Some scholarship sponsors will publish the number of applicants and the number of scholarships awarded the previous year. If not, it is ok to call the scholarship sponsor and request this information. If there is only 2 scholarships available and the sponsor received 2,000 applications last year, you may want to invest your time into a different scholarship application.

Focus on your Strengths - If you are an athlete, focus on athletic scholarships. If you are an ‘A’ student, focus on merit-based scholarships or those based on GPA. Do not randomly select scholarships that you are not likely to have the experience or skill to win.

Meet all Deadlines - Mark a calendar and track all required application deadlines. If you miss a deadline, you will be automatically disqualified.

Renewable Works Best – Some scholarships are renewable for multiple years of college. It will take you the same amount of time to apply, but you will get money for each year of college. This is a no-brainer. Apply, apply, apply..

Be Prepared - Scholarship applications often require similar information. To save time create a folder that includes a copy of your tax forms, your resume or work history, community service or volunteer experience, school clubs and activities, transcript, and recommendation letters. Keep a copy of every application and essay you submit in this same folder. It will save you time and keep you on track!

Know What’s Required of You – Some scholarships will require you to attend an awards ceremony, maintain a certain grade point average, remain in a field of study, etc.. If you doubt that you will be able to continue to qualify it may be better to skip this scholarship and keep looking.

Historical evolution entered also philosophy and social sciences, like economy and political science, and law. The chief purpose of these efforts was, however, not the study of history for its own sake but for the utilitarian purpose of “learning from the past.” Moreover, such historical studies of, for example, law or economy have often been written by lawyers and economists and not by historians. The dissatisfaction of historians with such accounts is perhaps partially responsible for the negative attitude of most, or at least many, historians toward the achievement of scientific thinking and heir failure to explore the possibilities which a scientific approach has to offer. This “tension” between historians and social scientists is an interesting topic in itself, but would lead us far away from our main topic.

Incidentally, a historical approach developed gradually, encompassing all arts and letters, literature and languages, art and music; all have been studied in a historical manner. Again, however, this started as a work of specialists interested in the history of their topics. Pioneers like Winckeman, Dr. Burney, Tiraboshi, and Victor Cousin intended with their books to deepen and broaden the appreciation and understanding of the student of art, of music, or literature, and of philosophy. The emphasis on the historical environment was taken up only later by more or less professional historians.

I return now to the contrast between the Hero-Worship attitude of Carlyle and the modern general history of Ferrero, two authors who influenced me greatly in high school, as I mentioned before. Ferrero’s “The Greatness and Decline of Rome” is perhaps not as well-known in the United States as it should be. Ferrero was also an early believer in, and wrote a little book about, the “Unity of the World.” (Willkie’s book, “One World or None” came ten years later.)

Since a lot of you, I am sure, have not heard about Ferrero before, let me tell you what the distinguished American historian, Charles A. Beard, says about him in a Foreward to that little book: “It is a small book about a great subject by a distinguished thinker. Such combinations are not common, and it is written with an artistic flair which delights the reader by whirling him in time and space, challenging him and informing him.”

In the Preface of the American edition of his history of Rome, he displays an attitude which can be applied to the history of contemporary United States. “I have studied the history of Rome from the point of view of the transformation of man, of the increase of luxury, and of the standard of living from generation to generation.” This attitude is less dated than that of Mommsen, for example, whose books “were written from the special point of view that interested the majority at that time, the conflict between the public and the monarchy.”

Ferrero also wrote a very interesting volume called the “Women of the Ceasars.” This is a topic which is sometimes not considered adequately. People talk about “the man behind the throne,” and we should consider the “women behind the men.” The women behind the men play a much more important role, for instance, for politicians, than a lot of people think. This was true about the Caesars and it also is true about scientists. I could mention several cases. Quite a few scientists who were great became even greater, because they had the proper wives, and scientists who could have been equally great were retarded by not quite so good a choice.

(Here is something which is not directly related to our topic. Some of you may not know the “Women of the Caesars.” At that time, the women already had greater freedom when Rome became the master state of the Mediterranean Area. There were different types of legal marriages – one was “manus,” which ws the older form where all the goods of the wife passed to the ownership of the husband, so that she could no longer possess anything in her own name. And there was the marriage without “manus,” in which only the dowry became the property of the husband, and the wife remained mistress of all her other belongings and all that she might acquire. This is not the modern way where she keeps hers and she gets his.)

Among modern historians, let me discuss very briefly Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., whose books some of you may have read. Schlesinger is a follower of Carlyle, a romantic historian. He considers history made by “men in buff coats and breeches, with color in their cheeks, with passions in their stomachs, and the idioms, features and vitalities of very men.” This type of history is in contrast to the unromantic, “scientific” approach of Ranke, which emphasized thoroughness and impartiality at the expense of readability. Sometimes the text was almost drowned in footnotes!

Schlesinger is an adherent of the “confusion theory” of history. He believes in the “role of chance, the contingency, the sheer intricacy of situations, the mark of battle.” This is in contrast to the “conspiracy theory,” according to which “if something happened, somebody planned it.” Schlesinger also disagrees with the “prophetic historians,” like Marx, Spengler, and Toynbee, who use “one big hypothesis to explain a variety of small things.” All these diverse attitudes in history in general show up also in the history of science.

michaelguth.com/family/HistoryofPhysicsbyEugeneGuth.htm

Eugene Guth, michaelguth.com/family/eugeneguth.htm michaelguth.com/family/eugeneguth.htm , made pioneering contributions to Polymer Physics and significant contributions to Nuclear and Solid State Physics. At the age of 23, he wrote the first comprehensive history of quantum theory in a 170-page Handbuch der Physik (Vol. IV) article, which was highly praised by Niels Bohr and Wolfgang Pauli. Dr. Guth is one of the chief founders and developers of Polymer Physics and Polymer Physical Chemistry, both theoretically and experimentally. For this work and for basic contributions to rheology, he received the 1965 Bingham Medal, the Society of Rheology’s highest award.

Degrees from Health Care Administration Schools provide graduates with opportunities to climb the corporate ladder. Graduates can apply for both middle- and upper-level positions in small and large health care facilities. Health Care Administration Schools help students develop skills necessary for administration in all areas of health care. Depending on the focus of study, graduates can apply for positions as nurse administrators, admissions supervisors, account managers, schedulers, human resource managers, finance managers, CEOs, and others.

Many colleges and universities offer health care diploma and certificate programs, as well as Associate of Science (AS), Bachelor of Science (BS), Master of Science (MS), and doctorate (PhD) degrees. Associate degree programs prepare students in the essentials of managerial and organizational support. Healthcare systems operations will be examined, as well as practical hands-on administration of health care services. Bachelor degrees require more in-depth studies and advanced skills. Associate and bachelor degree holders will find entry-level positions in a variety of settings.

Master of Business Administration - Health Care Management (MBA-HCM) programs can enhance business and management skills for effective health care management. Students learn to develop communication, critical thinking, and problem solving skills; study health care concepts and decision models; research profitable growth opportunities; address issues of health law and ethics; and study concepts of theory and leadership. Students enrolled in the MBA courses of study in Health Care Administration Schools will also find solutions to problems and create and implement programs to resolve them.

Most graduates of Health Care Administration Schools will find work in hospitals, clinics, home healthcare agencies, public health offices, or healthcare insurance offices. The demand for health care administrators continues to be strong and is expected to grow. Salaries vary with positions, but averages remain around $40,000 to $90,000 annually.

Some way out conspiracy theorists believe that there are government agencies recruiting certain individuals who have a genetic displacement which allows them to see glimpses of the future or enables them to do remote viewing. There have been many way out stories and conspiracy theorist books written on individuals with telepathic powers working for the United States government.

If they are that is a good thing and I’m glad they’re working on our team rather than someone else’s. Is this conspiracy theory real? Does the government recruit kids by giving them mind altering drugs to help them harness their telepathic powers to recruit them as spies? Is this storyline any good? Sure that is a good one. Here is why. Some people’s brains run at faster RPMs. and if a kid had used a methanphetine (Sp?) then their brain waves might jump to 60-80 Hz and who knows what that might do?

Someone talking on a cell phone for an hour might have heated up their brains and caused rogue brain waves able to catch a glimpse of something else. Remember energy and electrical waves are everywhere, so all you would have to do is ride one to another, to another and read it.

If photons can store images and the brain works on light and the nerves of the body work on sound vibrations and the bio-system has various waves, then sure a mind altering drug could do something that would allow some sort of possibilities. Vanimer Bush and others had done studies in the 70’s with these sorts of things. And we all know the story about Shaman theories and their miraculous abilities.

Since most of this is bathed in science-fiction fantasy and conspiracy theory probably there is nothing more to it than that, although many people want to believe it is all true? What do you believe? Is this all just more twilight zone episode’s gone mad?

Currently he is planning a bicycle ride across the US to raise money for charity and is sponsored by Calling-Plans.com Calling-Plans.com and all the proceeds will go to various charities who sign up.
